Blending classical blues with the timeless sound of rock ‘n roll, Lily Forte graced us with the release of “Miles To Go” on October 17, and showcased the beauty of modern and classical influences. 

Co-written with Jamie Gelman, the lyrics stem from Lily’s personal experience with an alcoholic man. It delivers a graceful but punchy goodbye to toxic influences as well as highlighting the entertainment industry’s dark side, pointing out the power imbalances that up-and-coming artists like Lily herself navigate. The greater message that “Miles to Go” conveys is about taking control over your story. “You have the power to write your own story,” Lily stated, “Don’t let someone else write it for you.”

“Miles To Go” features Lily Forte’s signature blend of modern and classical influences by utilising live horns and gritty bass guitar lines in its production. It also highlights her beautiful and clear alto vocals, making the song captivating to listen to. Her voice bears similarities to those of Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga, who both have distinct vocals that are recognisable from a mile away – no pun intended. 

Lily successfully bridges the gap between decades of musical influences, utilising her diverse taste to create a unique brand that makes her stand out. Her discography and aesthetic has something nostalgic when listening to it, making use of the old Hollywood glamour and bold make-up looks. It makes her an artist worth following while she’s navigating her journey as an up-and-coming artist.
