The “WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA” is back, though she never really left!
A direct mirror to her previous track, “BEAT UP CHANEL$”, and conveniently one of my favourites from her March 2026 album, this track cuts deep for anyone who has ever felt like they were the second choice to someone, or for anyone who has ever been wronged by a person you trusted. Likewise, if you simply enjoy a fun, groovy track with a fast chorus and a danceable beat, “brand new chanel$” is for you!
While the precursor track was rough around the edges, messy, and loud in its bold statement of using “vintage bags & diamond grills” as a means of chasing authenticity, this one is gentler and more poppy in its production, while still keeping you on your feet in the literal sense
When I first heard the song, I immediately had the urge to get out of my seat and dance up a storm, and it was only upon listening to it on repeat almost obsessively for almost a whole day, that I realised the track’s lyrics are much deeper than that. While the track is a soon-to-be dancefloor classic, the lyrics are also extremely vulnerable and unfortunately relatable for many.
“brand new chanel$”, is a direct switch-up from “BEAT UP CHANEL$” – from its all-lowercase title, down to the pacing of the track, while also carefully utilising the lyrics and melody of the more upbeat track in the outro, all to create a completely new message.
From the line “I want sex, money, bitches, and the stickiest weed” in the precursor, to “He want sex, money, bitches, and to lie through his teeth” in this one, the vibe of the track takes a more melancholic, yearning turn that sticks with the listener long after the song fades out.
This is not your classic break-up song, but rather a heartfelt take on the betrayal that comes with it. The chorus feels both refreshing, freeing, and somehow devastating in its lyrics – “I’m holding it alone, just for tonight / I wonder if you got her in your room / I call you on the phone just to start a fight / I know what you do, I see how you move”.
In recent interviews, Slayyyter described that she got cheated on in her own house just two days before her March 2026 album release, and this track feels like a direct commentary on the event – a way of her getting back at the situation.
The beat up Chanels that used to represent the authenticity Slayyyter craves, now become almost undesirable in the eyes of her lover, as he chases new plasticity and loses what’s real.
The music video ties the whole motive together: in it, Catherine Grace Garnet (Slayyyter) delivers huge mid-2010s Tumblr-era vibes, and utilises the same filming locations as in the video for “BEAT UP CHANEL$”, to signify a similar storyline.
Interestingly, in the music video, Slayyyter also wears a hat with a rhinestoned ‘WOR$T MAN IN AMERICA’ title across it, as if teasing a new or deluxe release, speculated to be full of mirroring tracks to those from her last record, “WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA”.
This track, despite emerging from a negative situation, is one of my favourite singles released this year. There is something so quintessentially freeing and summery about it, I can imagine so many situations in which this would be my go-to song to play.
