With their staple of ethereal and nostalgic music, the British TYGERMYLK is gearing up for the release of their new single, “Babe III” on 24 September, something that I can only describe as a beautiful and emotional trip down memory lane.
The song was created as a way to process the grief following the loss of people that are no longer here, and shares one of TYGERMYLK’s fondest childhood memories. With that in mind, I gave the song a listen.
The composition is simple and slow and follows a repeated pattern, but it doesn’t need much more to drive the nostalgia and vulnerability home. Elements like a fiddle during the lyric “Teaching me the fiddle when we dance an Irish Jig” only add to that atmosphere and they did a great job doing so.
The song starts out talking about caring for their grandfather in his final days, and although the first verse is beautiful as a whole, there was one lyric that specifically tugged at my heartstrings: “We sat on the lawn with the sun on our face /I held your hand waiting for some kind of grace.”
The childhood memory is about a pig that they stumbled upon when they were little. The pig is referred to throughout the song with lyrics such as “She came strutting down the lane and stayed pretty in pink.” The fondness of that memory was most felt in the lyrics “Babe is my favourite film and I like to think you found her for me.”
“Babe III” is a reference to the ‘Babe’ franchise, a film about a pig. It ties everything together perfectly. It’s an incredibly tender and vulnerable song that captures the process of grief in a personal way. Next to grief, it’s also a beautiful ode to their family. “Babe III” is an incredible song and I personally believe it’s one of their best.
For everyone who’s a sucker for deeply personal and emotional stories like me, “Babe III” will be perfect as your next listen . It really resonated with me as someone who went through the process of grief, and I believe it can provide fans, who went through the same experience, a sense of comfort. TYGERMYLK did a fantastic job capturing a conflicting and vulnerable moment in their life!
