A stage full of leopard print, disco shoes, and a setlist full of good music. These things probably sound familiar to you if you've ever been to a Miles Kane concert. Last night, Miles Kane performed a sold-out show in Tilburg, a day after his energetic gig in Amsterdam. The concert hall was cosy, intimate and perfect for his music.
For the two shows Miles played in the Netherlands, a Dutch band, Badminton, opened up for him. They set the night's tone superbly, their energy was at its peak, and their music was outstanding. After seeing them perform yesterday evening, they lured me into wanting to see them play live more often. As they have a few songs out on Spotify, I would love to recommend adding them to your most-used playlists!
Not long after Badminton, Miles entered the stage. You could immediately feel the air in the room change the second he walked in. His set started with his song “Sing A Song To Love”, a tune from his newest album, “Sunlight In The Shadows”, which he released in October last year. I would like to say that it is the perfect song to start his performance with, as it sets the tone quite well. The crowd sang with him and clapped with the beat of the drums.
Although his album did come out a few months ago, that didn’t hold him back from playing songs from his senior albums such as “Inhaler”, “Coup De Grace” and “Troubled on”. Personally, I loved his choices of “My Love” and “Don’t Forget Who You Are” as those are my absolute favourite Miles Kane songs.
The only song I felt was missing was “I Pray”. I had expected him to play this song, as he did a lot of his album promotion with the track. It was also one of the more outstanding songs he played at the Sunlight In The Shadows release show in a small record store in Rotterdam last year.
This was one of the only gigs I haven’t felt any rejecting ambience at; there was plenty of room to dance, and the crowd used that well. The crowd was full of older and younger people alike. Everyone seemed to respect each other, and they all appeared to be having fun. I felt a lot of connection in the room, which I’m thanking Miles for, as his music really made that happen.
The artist took his moments to joke around with some fans. One of them wished him a happy birthday halfway through his set, which he responded to with a big smile: "My birthday is tomorrow."
And since this is published on his birthday, we want to wish him a happy birthday from BRUIT. too!
