The Dare came out with a new single called “The Tambourine”, part of a new EP called Freakquencies, which is set to be released on August 22. Harrison Patrick Smith, who goes by the stage name The Dare, is a relatively new artist with his first EP called “The Sex EP” released in 2023. He continues to make music rapidly, such as his album “What’s Wrong With New York?” which was, and still is, a great success and is performed around the world. His music falls within the genre of alternative indie pop, with influences of house and techno, which seems to be appreciated in the current music scene.

His new single “The Tambourine”, released on August 1, is a house track that indicates his new EP might be something different than his previous work. Perhaps more songs with fewer lyrics?

The funky beat of the song makes you want to dance and is perfect for a rave or clubnight. The tune starts slowly with a beat and the lyrics

“shake my tambourine”

keep repeating throughout the song, which seems minimalistic, but with the catchy sound effects and fast-paced beat, it fits perfectly. Given the chaotic sound, further lyrics are not really needed in my opinion. “The Tambourine” is the perfect teaser for the upcoming EP.

There does not seem to be a hidden message in the song yet, and I’m questioning whether there is one at all. For now it seems like a fun party song, which is what The Dare is mostly known for. Perhaps the fun sound of the track takes away from the need for deep and meaningful lyrics. I think “The Tambourine” is a good omen for his next EP Frequencies. There’s definitely more great music from The Dare on the way, and I am so ready!
