As TAEYONG’s first release following his mandatory military enlistment, Rock Solid carries a little more significance than your average comeback.

Instead of easing back in, he goes in the opposite direction – it’s bold, high-energy, completely self-assured from the start, and exactly up the NCT leader’s alley. Bringing in Anderson .Paak only amplifies that energy.

On the surface, “Rock Solid” sounds like your typical confidence track, but it doesn’t feel empty. Lines like “Why would you worry ‘bout opinions when you this popping?” And “I done put too much work in to let you come and knock off a good thing” hit a little different here, especially knowing where he’s coming from, as he has worked in the music industry for more than a decade, as a member of K-Pop group NCT, and as a soloist collaborating with Western artists.

The first verse immediately sets the tone: “Making ‘em dance, turn up the tension / We taking a chance, I make ‘em shake it up.” It’s high-energy, performance-driven, and honestly feels like it’s made for a stage. You can almost picture a packed arena right when TAEYONG mentions it, “Full arena, just turn up the bass.”

He then almost immediately grounds it by directly attributing his success: “Who’d have thought it start with the pen and a pad.” It’s a small line, but it reminds you that this isn’t just about the comeback – it’s about everything that led up to it.

The chorus repeats lines that feel like a mantra, “From my feet to my crown […] I’m rock solid.” Anderson .Paak’s delivery smooths everything out, adding an effortless confidence that balances TAEYONG’s sharper, more intense energy.

By the second verse, TAEYONG’s fully locked in: “I was born to be this animal […] it’s in my instincts” & “I’m too confident, I keep them haters off of me.” There’s no hesitation. If anything, his time away from the industry seems to have sharpened his sense of identity. Lines like “I prove it again, I do it again” feel especially fitting here, like he’s re-establishing himself without actually needing to, given his success.

At its core, “Rock Solid” is about consistency. Even with the break in between, even with expectations building, the message stays the same: he’s steady. “Eyes on me, envy in me, so loud, my mind stays strong” basically says it all – there’s no noise: there’s attention, but none of it is shaking him.

And as a first release back, that idea lands even harder.
